Gear Talk with Seamus and Chad

by Jacob Michael

Before a chord is strummed, musicians need the right gear nearby. Whether it’s a custom electric guitar or mandolin, Lo Beggar’s Seamus Fennessy and Chad King recognize the need for quality gear that produces the desired sound.

Though his primary focus is on lead vocals, Fennessy enjoys cranking the punchy tone of his Fender ’72 Telecaster thinline reissue as loudly as possible (pictured left below). “The ’72 thinline has a gritty yet distinct sound. I love the semi-hollow weight of the guitar and its classy f-hole at the top,” he remarked.

Lead guitarist Chad King wanted an electric guitar embodying everything he found comfortable in his other guitars, which inspired him to build his custom “Jazzcaster” (pictured right below). “The Jazzcaster is nice and thick physically, but it still puts out a bright tone. The thin neck also makes playing much more comfortable,” King commented.

With the right gear in hand, Fennessy and King are able to give audiences their signature, indie rock sound that packs a punch.
